CTYF just received word that our 2009 film, Central Pride, has been awarded a Silver Telly Award for Online Video. The official announcement has not hit the Telly Award Website yet for this year, but we will be back with more details soon regarding the achievement.

Central Pride Film Synopsis

A documentary about the Central High School of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and its promising peer-to-peer recovery support model called “The Leadership Group.” The story is told by the students, faculty, and families involved in this remarkable and inspirational program. Started 6 years ago with just 3 students, the group has increased by means of peer-to-peer outreach, and now counts over 500 participating students all helping one another live drug and alcohol free. It is the inspiring story of Mr. David Gordon, school drug counselor, and Mr. Steven Karjanis, school social worker, who’s vision that youth helping one another would have a greater impact than the individual counseling was accomplishing in the school. What has happened over the last six years goes far beyond any possibility they could have imagined! So many students are now living drug and alcohol free lifestyles, that not only has their own lives improved, but the program has created a positive cultural change at the school. Connecticut Turning To Youth and Families discovered this jewel of a program in 2008 and chose to fund this documentary project, hoping to increase awareness, and to facilitate the replication of “The Leadership Group” into other schools.
