About this site...

Knowing how to access support, resources and information concerning alcohol or drug prevention, treatment and recovery for a youth or a family member can be a challenging task.

The goal of this site is to provide Connecticut youth, parents, family members, caregivers and professionals a safe place to go for easy access to the latest information, and connections for support and resources. We are people who have lived the experience and want to help by bringing hope to those still struggling. We are young people, families, relatives and friends who believe alcohol abuse and addiction is a family illness, and that with changed attitudes, youth, families and communities can overcome these problems. Helping other youth and families to be healthy and addiction free is our sole purpose. We do this by welcoming everyone, giving hope and encouragement through information, understanding and support on this site and in our other programs and services. CTYouthandFamilies.org is a place where we can talk about our concerns, needs and solutions peer-to-peer. Promoting prevention, treatment and recovery is our primary purpose.

Towards a More Inclusive and Culturally Competent Website

This website is an evolving process. To get ctyouthandfamilies.org where it needs to be, we need your input and help shaping and enhancing it as it goes through stages. Our vision is to reach out and be inclusive in our support so information is accessible to all kinds of youth, families, caregivers and segments of our communities in Connecticut. No matter where you live or what neighborhood you're from, no one needs to feel isolated. We hope to embed the language, spirit and culture of all kinds of recovery. One of our short term goals as we try to enhance our diversity will be to publish as much content as possible in Spanish, including releasing a Spanish video soon. If you would like to help us get there we welcome your input. We have features in the works for a section for college students, young veterans and their families in recovery, our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth and Connecticut's urban and rural youth. We need your patience and volunteer help, so much to do, so little time and money!

Connecticut's Three Legged Stool: Prevention, Treatment and Recovery

Prevention, treatment and recovery efforts from alcohol abuse and other drugs use in Connecticut have been described as operating as a "three legged stool." Guidance from youth and families who have lived with the disease and have been successful in recovery is what helps that three legged stool to stand. We offer our wisdom of personal experience and assist as advocates at the policy table. Offering leadership, we are unifying the voices of youth and families in Connecticut so that legislators get a strong, cohesive, assertive message; we need more resources and support for youth and families struggling with the disease of addiction. We represent a statewide collection of diverse youth and families who have learned we can recover from this family disease, but it takes the courage to reach out, and sometimes getting help to navigate the available resources.

We, who live or have lived with alcohol and drug problems, have come to understand certain things. We do not provide treatment or give advice. Our lives have taken similar turns, and we have discovered that no situation is really hopeless. Information is priceless, understanding is essential and solutions are real.
