Growing Recovery Capital

This section offers information about programs that helps other groups and organizations provide grow and sustain their youth and family recovery services. The programs are designed to accelerate the successful development of programs and services through an array of capacity building supports, resources and services, developed and orchestrated by CTYF through its network of contacts. Individuals and programs that participate vary in the way they deliver their services, in their organizational structure, and in the types of services, but have in common those they serve: Connecticut youth and families needing support with sustaining recovery support services for youth with alcohol or drug issues.

Mini Grants

Our mini-grant program is especially effective for supporting targeted local prevention, treatment and recovery support issues. It is a critical tool for capacity building. While modest in size, the program already has produced many success stories and fills critical gaps in local grass root projects led by youth and families.

For example, many of the videos published on this site were funded by CTYF mini-grants.

Between March and September 2008, CTYF in partnership with Connecticut's Department of Children and Families, FAVOR, and a number of local community family and youth led coalitions to grow youth and family recovery in Connecticut. CTYF assisted a significant number of youth and families in receiving 68 thousand dollars in mini-grants to strengthen their capacity to offer youth and family support programs, successfully helping youth and families to connect with information, treatment and supports for achieving tangible positive recovery outcomes. Successfully accessing treatment and helping youth and families to link with other youth and family recovery support services has helped us to fill a need, to identify and address services, practices and system gaps by providing youth and families with the critical help and much needed advocacy.

Reaching Youth and Families When and Where They Are

Using promising practice "first of its kind" peer-to-peer recovery support models linked with video and web-based social networking technology, we are training more and more recovery coaches for support in person, via telephone and online. Our leadership, training events, listening sessions, newsletter, video, website and mini-grant programs are sample programs and services we are now being launched statewide. We have created visibility for model programs, evidence based and promising practices, creating visibility and served as an "incubator" for growing local grassroots family support and advocacy networks, passing funding through to help build capacity to help advocate for, replicate and sustain what works well locally.
